Three quick and easy air fryer recipes | Life and Arts

In my kitchen, convenience is key when deciding what I eat. Especially on school nights with minimal time to spare, finding a way to produce a healthy, tasty and, most importantly, quick source of food is crucial.

Recently, with the aid of my air fryer, I’ve adapted a few classic dishes to be cooked in a short, convenient manner.

chicken tenders

This first recipe is one of my personal favorite substitutes for eating out at a fast-food restaurant, where my order is, for the most part, a basket of chicken tenders. These air-fryer tenders are a simple substitute for frying chicken, like with a pot of oil, which can get messy and require significant preparation. With this air-fryer recipe, the chicken has a crispy and light texture that doesn’t feel heavy or greasy.

Ingredients:

  • 4 raw chicken tenderloins, thawed (chicken breast works as a substitute)

  • 1 c all purpose flour

  • Salt, ground pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, paprika (adjust the quantity to your preferred spice level)

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter

Directions:

  1. After thawing your chicken, you must remove the white tendon from each tenderloin. A straightforward way to do this is by either cutting it out with a knife or using a fork to pull it out slowly.

  2. Pour one cup of all-purpose flour into a bowl or plate and mix with salt, ground pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, paprika and any other spices you wish to add.

  3. Coat your chicken tenders in the flour, and cover as much of the chicken’s surface as possible with flour.

  4. Once coated, place your chicken into a lightly greased sheet of aluminum foil inside your air fryer. Also, brush a tiny bit of vegetable oil or butter onto the chicken to slightly wet the coating.

  5. Cook the tenders in the air-fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, depending on your desired crispiness. Flip halfway through the cooking cycle.

  6. Once cooking is finished, lightly season with salt once more and serve with your dipping sauce of choice.

10-Minute Los Huevos Rancheros

Los Huevos Rancheros is one of my favorite Mexican dishes. Despite being traditionally served at breakfast, this recipe will taste amazing anytime, even as a late-night snack.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small corn tortilla

  • 2 eggs

  • ¼ c salsa (store-bought works just fine)

  • ¼c grated cheese

  • Salt, cayenne, cumin, ground pepper, garlic powder (adjust the quantity to your preferred spice level)

  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)

  • 2 lime wedges (optional)

Directions:

  1. Place a small corn tortilla on a greased piece of aluminum foil.

  2. Spread ¼ cup of salsa around the center of the tortilla.

  3. Atop the salsa, crack two eggs, being careful not to break the yolks.

  4. Season the eggs with salt, cayenne, cumin, ground pepper, garlic powder and other preferred spices.

  5. Let it cook in the air-fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 7-10 minutes until the tortilla is crispy and the eggs are fully cooked. When three minutes remain in the cooking cycle, top the dish with ¼ cup of grated cheese.

  6. Once finished, remove your food from the air-fryer and optionally top it with chopped cilantro and fresh lime juice.

avocado fries

This recipe, despite having a few more steps, is a flavorful snack with flavor combinations that are worth a try. These avocado fries come in bite-sized pieces and are the perfect appetizer to share with some friends or save all for yourself.

Ingredients:

  • 2 whole avocados

  • 2 tbsp cream cheese

  • ½ c breadcrumbs (crushed chips work as a substitute)

  • 2 eggs

  • c flour

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • Salt, cayenne, cumin, ground pepper, garlic powder (adjust quantity to your preferred spice level)

Directions:

  1. Set out a bowl and scramble two eggs. In another bowl beside it, combine ½ cup of flour with salt, cayenne, cumin, ground pepper, garlic powder and other preferred spices.

  2. Scoop out the contents of two avocados, slicing them into one-to-one-and-a-half-inch wide pieces (you should have 10-20 avocado slices after cutting).

  3. Start individually coating your avocado slices in the scrambled egg mixture and dropping them into the flour mixture, making sure to coat both sides of the avocado slice. Once coated in flour, dip the slices back into the egg wash and then sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

  4. After every piece is thoroughly coated with egg, flour and breadcrumbs, place the avocado slices in a lightly greased sheet of aluminum foil in your air-fryer.

  5. Brush your avocado slices with a light coat of oil and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-8 minutes.

  6. Once cooked, top each piece with a dollop of cream cheese and serve.
